New South Story Lab

Our Mission:

New South Story Lab is a Louisiana literary and arts program that exists to foster Southern storytelling. We offer free educational opportunities for young creatives in the areas of writing, art and filmmaking. We believe that humans connect best through storytelling, and that giving residents of the Deep South a way to be heard is vital to building strong, unified communities.

Every spring, summer and fall, Story Lab hosts a free 2-month writing workshop led by at least 2 writing mentors. On Saturday mornings, students and mentors gather for doughnuts, coffee and comraderie. We explore topics in writing: plot, character development, setting, tone, dialogue and all of the qualities that make a fantastic story! Workshops are open to students in grades 7-12. Every young writer has the opportunity to be published in our annual anthology and to share their work in person at our open mic "OutSpoken" events.
